Kevin Walters’ heartbreaking grand final admission following devastating loss
After a terrible final 20 minutes handed the Panthers a comeback grand final win, Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters admitted that losing a premiership “pisses off” his playing group and staff.
Walters, who won six premierships as a player, will face the enormous task of reviving his team as it prepares to say goodbye to stars Thomas Flegler and Herbie Farnworth.
When asked if picking them up would be difficult, Walters admitted it would be, but he managed to find the positives
in a negative situation.
“Once the dust settles (we’ll move on), everyone in that room can be extremely proud of (what they’ve done),” he said post-game.
“Where the club is now to where it was before all these guys got their hands on the club, it’s just remarkable, absolutely remarkable.”
While trying to stay upbeat, the coach did vent his frustration after Nathan Cleary’s try cancelled their hopes of ending a 17-year premiership drought.
“Next couple of days we can sit back and be really proud of that but we wanted to win a premiership this year and we didn’t get it so that pisses us off,” he said.
