Alabama football is apparently bringing in assistance with some understanding of its future opponent, Michigan, ahead of its Rose Bowl showdown. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reports that George Helow, a former Wolverine assistant, is being brought on board by the Crimson Tide to work under Nick Saban.

Helow is said to start working right away. Beginning in 2021 and serving as Michigan’s linebackers coach until the end of the 2022 campaign, he departed when UM coach Jim Harbaugh replaced him with Chris Partridge.

Following his departure from Michigan in February, Helow posted on social media, “These past two seasons have been an honour and an amazing experience.” “However, it’s time for me to investigate new career opportunities.”

Helow spent one season at Maryland coaching inside linebackers and special teams before coming to the Wolverines. From 2016 until 2019, he was employed by Colorado State, where he began as a graduate assistant and defensive quality control coach before taking the position of safeties coach.

Helow’s new position will mark his second employment in Tuscaloosa. As an intern, he worked in the weight room and later with former defensive coordinator Kirby Smart before beginning his coaching career.
