Being on staff is useless for Parker Fleming. It is not good that he is the special teams coach. Honestly, this year’s special teams were downright awful. A full-time coordinator for special teams is not present in any other major programme. What makes Day want to hold on to him, then?
The Cotton Bowl would not be affected if Fleming were fired right now. It’s possible, in fact, that it will strengthen the special teams team in time for that game. One may argue that Fleming’s
departure wouldn’t have any detrimental effects, but firing Justin Frye could disrupt the offensive line before of the bowl game.
There is a serious issue if Day doesn’t make any adjustments to the staff following the Cotton Bowl. He cannot possibly start the next season with the same coaches, particularly with regards to the offensive line and special teams.

The next athletic director shouldn’t put up with Day acting in this manner. He’s in fortunate that Smith won’t be departing before the new semester begins rather than before the vacation.
