Report: Tennessee’s first-year wide receiver Expected to use the NCAA transfer portal is Doneiko Slaughter.

It looks like Tennessee’s defence has lost another starting member for the current campaign. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that defensive back Doneiko Slaughter, who will start seven games as a cornerback for the Vols in 2023, is anticipated to use the NCAA transfer portal. The senior has started games at cornerback, safety, and star throughout his Tennessee career. However, by using the portal, he will be able to investigate his options regarding playing in a different position for his final season of eligibility.

Players have approximately one month to add their names to the database after the transfer portal window opened on Monday. In order to notify a school of their intention to transfer, a player must submit paperwork, which the school has 48 hours to process. Entering the portal

Over the course of 43 games (15 starts), Slaughter recorded 87 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, six pass breakups, and one interception for Tennessee.

Slaughter entered the programme as a member of Tennessee’s 2020 recruiting class and made his college debut at Star against South Carolina in the first game of the SEC-only schedule. However, he did not play much during his freshman season and saw most of his playing time as Theo Jackson’s backup Star in his sophomore year of 2021.

Entering the 2022 season, Slaughter slid back to safety and started the games that Jaylen McCollough missed, including those against Alabama and UT Martin. He recorded eight stops in the historic victory over the Crimson Tide and broke up a pass with a hard hit on the Skyhawks. Following a spate of injuries, Tennessee decided to examine Slaughter at

He became successful right away. His hard hit on a wide receiver set up a red-zone interception that turned the tide of play. Later in the 44-6 thumping of the Wildcats, who passed for a meagre 98 yards, he recorded a pick of his own.

Slaughter was forced to play cornerback for the remainder of the season, starting every contest but missing the one against Vanderbilt due to an injury sustained against South Carolina. Against Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina, he allowed big plays and/or touchdowns, but he also recovered a fumble against the Tigers and broke up a pass against the Bulldogs. With three pass breakups in the victory over the Orange Bowl against Clemson, Slaughter concluded the season on a positive note.

Following his best-ever season in 2022 (31 tackles, 6 pass breakups), Slaughter committed to staying at cornerback for the duration of the season and maintained his starting position. But a foot injury sustained early in the season kept him out of the Florida and UTSA games, hindering his progress as a cornerback. He recorded 32 tackles, one sack, and no pass breakups in ten games.

Due to Kamal Hadden’s injury against Alabama, Slaughter was able to return to the starting lineup against Kentucky, where he played the entire game. In three games, he recorded seven tackles against Missouri, a career-high 11 against Georgia, and nine tackles along with a sack against Connecticut. Prior to the regular-season finale against Vanderbilt, Slaughter skipped Senior Day.
