Michigan should try to hire Bob Stoops, according to the writer.

It’s November, and Michigan football fans’ thoughts have shifted away from the current season and towards the program’s next coach.

It must be the off season.

Here’s one toss against the wall: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops.

If the Wolverines are unable to entice alumnus Jim Harbaugh away from the NFL, the Ohio native should be Plan B, writes Dan Wetzel of yahoo.com.

(Of course, this assumes that current coach Brady Hoke is fired at the end of the season.)

Wetzel explains why Stoops, 54, would be a good fit for U-M: Midwestern roots, spotless programme.800 winning percentage, no plans to play in the NFL, and so on.

“This is an established coach, a man with a modern offense and an old-school demeanor,” Wetzel wrote. “He has the gravitas to seize command of the various factions surrounding the program. He will not be overwhelmed by the stage, the history or the expectations. He can win at the highest level.

“As a bonus, he already took over a listless former power that was besieged by infighting (it’s almost impossible to recall how bad the end of the Blake era was in Norman). He turned it into the most consistent winner of the last decade and a half in college football.”

As for why Stoops would want to leave said Sooners? Maybe to try something new. Maybe Oklahoma fans are taking him for granted. Maybe he just wants to finish his career closer to his hometown.
