There are plenty of interesting tales to follow this week, adding another chapter to the legendary rivalry between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Shaq Leonard picked the Eagles over the Cowboys, Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott are contenders for MVP, and the division lead is also up for grabs.
Much is riding on this game as coach Mike McCarthy’s favourite football month gets underway,
since it’s the second of a “gauntlet” that sees 9-3 Dallas play following the Eagles, Buffalo, Miami, and Detroit. “Our goal is to achieve our tenth victory,” stated McCarthy. “I truly enjoy the stretch we’re about to embark on. Looking at the teams, it’s clear that Philadelphia is the only one that matters at this time. This is a great chance for us to play playoff-caliber games without the repercussions of missing the playoffs.
“I think that works out great because I’ve always loved playing football in December. It’s a fantastic indicator of your team’s standing and what has to be done to qualify for and prepare for the playoffs.”
Over the past several weeks, the 10-2 Eagles have been playing catch-up football, as both the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs held double-digit leads at halftime (but both missed game-winning touchdown tosses). Eagles “escaped” both games with victories. However, that kind of game is unsustainable, and the 49ers of San Francisco did what the Chiefs and Bills did not do when they had a lead: they put the foot on the neck and never looked back, defeating the Eagles 42-19.
It is billed as a genuine heavyweight title fight with division and playoff implications and bragging rights hinging on the result. “It’s the Cowboys and the Eagles, I don’t think you have to say anything more than that,” McCarthy said.
It is promoted as a legitimate heavyweight title match, and the outcome would determine bragging rights as well as division and playoff ramifications. McCarthy remarked, “I don’t think you have to say anything more than that—it’s the Cowboys and the Eagles.”
