Wests Tiger signee Jayden Sullivan talked candidly about his departure from the Dragons and his conversations with Canterbury, saying he thought he would only ever play for one club in the Red v.
After spending four seasons with St George Illawarra, where he played 27 games at halfback, five-eight, and from the interchange, Sullivan has decided to move to Concord ahead of 2024.
After bouncing around the Dragons’ roster and fighting for a starting spot due to the competition veteran Ben Hunt presented, the gifted playmaker will have more opportunities with the Tigers. At the end of the previous season, Sullivan asked to be released from Kogarah in order to sign a four-year contract and relocate to Sydney’s west.
Before he finally hung up his boots, the Wollongong native had always believed he would play for the Dragons. He had a dream career with the team, appearing in the Saints’ SG Ball 2019 premiership squad, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Sullivan stated in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald that he will always treasure his time spent with the Dragons.
When considering his options, the 22-year-old acknowledged that the Bulldogs had a strong pull on him. However, his hesitation to relocate to Sydney caused his plan to play for the blue and white to fall through.
“I thought I would only go to one club,” Sullivan stated to the newspaper.
“I required and desired a chance. There is no animosity between the Dragons and me, so who’s
“I told ‘Gus’ [Gould] that I couldn’t handle it when I called him. At that point, I wasn’t prepared to leave my house.”Sullivan will join Benji Marshall’s squad in 2024 along with fellow halves Aidan Sezer and Latu Fainu. The Tigers need to add more playmakers to their lineup following Luke Brooks’ departure.
The Tigers will be prepared to experiment with their young roster in 2024 as they aim to move up the competition after finishing 17th with four wins this year.
After being given a bye in the first round of the season, the Wests Tigers will begin their next campaign in Round 2. The team’s first match of 2024 will take place in mid-March when they travel to Canberra to play the Raiders.
