With 2:32 remaining in the third quarter against the San Francisco 49ers, the former Alabama quarterback was stopped for a 6-yard gain on a third-and-eight scramble. He then made a quick
stop at the sideline medical tent and made his way to the locker room. no longer the second-best team in the country.

Hurts remained in the locker room as Marcus Mariota led the Eagles back into scoring position after Philadelphia regained possession. Hurts returned to the game after five snaps, which included a fourth-down run by the backup quarterback. With 5:33 remaining in the game, he finished a 13-play, 71-yard drive and cut San Francisco’s lead to 35-19 with a 2-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
Hurts left the game with the 49ers up 28–13 against Philadelphia.
In their last four games, the Eagles had fallen behind at halftime but had come back to win each one.
Hurts was leading his starting quarterback unit into Sunday’s game with a five-game winning streak when Philadelphia was behind by at least ten points. With streaks by Joe Montana and Steve Bartkowski, that was tied for the longest in the NFL since 1950, when the league started keeping track of starts.
