Tennessee offers MTSU DT transfer portal Marley Cooking
A name to remember.
Tennessee has made their first offer in the transfer portal. The former MTSU defensive lineman received an offer from the Volunteers on Thursday, according to Marley Cook’s X account.
Tennessee joins a long list of offers for Cook, which also includes Ohio State, Miami, Missouri, Ole Miss, and a few others. According to On3, Cook has already scheduled visits with Miami and Ohio State.
Cook enters the portal as a grad transfer fresh off a redshirt-junior season.
The Blue Raiders’ 6-2, 298-pound defensive lineman has started the last two seasons. He has been with MTSU since 2019, when he signed as a two-star prospect out of Mississippi. Cook has really stepped up in his last 25 starts, recording 7.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. The standout defender was named to the PFF College All-CUSA First Team.
in recognition of his efforts in 2022. Aside from that, Marley was named team captain ahead of the 2023 season.
Tennessee’s defensive line will be missing Kurott Garland and Elijah Simmons this season, as well as Omari Thomas, Tyler Baron, and Omarr Norman-Lott. As coaches try to navigate the portal era and COVID-year eligibility decisions, there are obviously a lot of ‘what-ifs’ to play out.
Expect plenty more offers in the coming days, but with Cook having spent the last four years just down the road in Murfreesboro, this is clearly one to keep an eye on.
