Roy Hodgson, the manager of Crystal Palace, confirms Cheick Doucoure’s injury’s extent.
In the second half at Kenilworth Road, Doucoure went down without any opposition and was eventually carried off while screaming in agony.
Following the game, the 23-year-old was spotted leaving the stadium on crutches and with his foot in a protective boot; Hodgson confirmed that the injury was “very serious.”
Nevertheless, after having surgery this week, Doucoure might recover from the injury before the season ends, according to the Standard.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Palace’s match against West Ham United, Hodgson attempted to project positivity despite the team’s fears that they may be without the Player of the Year from the previous campaign for up to six months.
“It might take until the end of the season, but one must naturally maintain optimism. I don’t think it has to take that long because he’s young and heals quickly.” According to Hodgson
The Palace manager did express how much of a setback it is for the team to lose a player who was so important to them last season, which sparked Liverpool’s rumours of interest in making a £70 million summer transfer.
Hodgson acknowledged: “We’ll miss him and we know it’s a long-term injury.” We will have to accept this devastating blow and figure out a way to move forward.”
Hodgson discussed the most recent developments regarding Eberechi Eze’s injury later in the press conference, following his forced departure from Luton.
According to reports earlier in the week, Eze might miss the majority of December, when Palace’s schedule—along with all other Premier League teams’—becomes busier.
“After [Eze] sees the surgeon again today, we ought to know more. Due to a ligament issue, he saw the surgeon at the beginning of the week and had his ankle placed in a boot.
“He will see him once more today. Although it appears that the high ankle ligament injury is not as serious as a bad ligament injury lower down, it is still a significant injury none the less. Today, we’re waiting once more for the surgeon’s advice to determine when he will return.”
